Events for Prospective Students

This page presents the various in-person or online events where prospective architecture students can obtain more information about the McEwen School of Architecture programs, the admissions process, and so on. You can find below the complete and detailed information in order to attend these events, or who to contact if you wish to obtain more information. These events cater to prospective architecture students, as well as to, in some cases, guidance counsellors, who support prospective students in their seach for university study programs.

Ontario Universities' Fair (OUF)

In 2023, the Ontario Universities’ Fair (OUF) will be held on October 21-23 in Toronto (Metro Toronto Convention Centre, 255 Front St W). Doors open at 10:00 am and close at 5:00 pm.

The McEwen School of Architecture (Laurentian University) will have two representatives on site in order to meet prospective students who are interested in the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) Undergraduate pre-professional program:

  • Ted Wilson, Master Lecturer
  • Louis-Pierre Bélec, Assistant Professor

Our representatives will offer BAS information guides (English or French version) to all those who are interested in the program, and will be able to answer questions in English and in French.

BAS Information Sessions

In 2023, the McEwen School of Architecture will hold multiple online (on Zoom) BAS Information Sessions, in order to provide more information about our unique Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) Undergraduate pre-professional program and to talk about the admissions process:

 

High Schools (all provinces except Quebec)

High School students and High School guidance counsellors are invited to join us for a BAS Information Session, which will happen:

CÉGEP students and members of the teaching staff are invited to join us for a BAS Information Session, which will happen:

The session will cater to programs such as Architecture Technology, Interior Design, etc., and will address the potential path to Architectural Studies at the university level after the DEC degree, explaining why the BAS at the MSoA is a great option for those wishing to become an architect in Quebec or elsewhere in Canada, especially for those wishing to complete some of their studies in French, considering there are only three school of architecture in Canada who offer some or all architecture courses in French.

Portfolio Workshops

in 2023, the McEwen School of Architecture will offer Portfolio Workshops (in-person and online) for applicants who wish to learn more about the Portfolio (admission requirement) and how to put it together, in order to increase their chances of being accepted into the Bachelor of Architectural Studies (BAS) Undergraduate pre-professional program:

Portfolio Workshop (In-person)

In 2023-24, the MSoA will offer in-person Portfolio Workshops for BAS candidates who wish to (1) learn more about best practives pertaining to the creation of architecture portfolio artwork, as well as the curating of their work in an elegant and efficient digital portfolio format, to (2) get feedback on their existing artwork, which they are thinking of integrating into their Portfolio, and to (3) create additional new artwork pieces with the help and support of MSoA faculty in staff in artwork creation sessions.

It is mandatory to register to the Portfolio Workshop session of your choice (see dates below) in order to attend, as each session will be caped to 40 participants.

  • Saturday & Sunday Dec.16-17  —  Session #1
  • Saturday & Sunday Jan.6-7  —  Session #2

Even though there is no mandatory requirement pertaining to the tools participants should bring to the workshop, it is recommended to bring a laptop as well as any artwork creation tool they feel may be useful during the artwork creation session.

NOTE: The Portfolio is a mandatory admission requirement for the MSoA BAS (and for most Schools of architecture in Canada). The submission deadline for the Portfolio is Feb.14, 2024.
