Off-Series Lecture by Richard de la Riva

The MSoA is happy to announce it will hold an Off-Series lecture next week, as one of the M.Arch. Thesis Defense External Examiners will give a talk on the occasion of their visit to Sudbury.

On Tuesday Apr.8 (5:30 pm), architect Richard de la Riva (Affleck de la Riva, Montréal, QC) will give a lecture entitled “Présences” (in English with a bit of French). This event is free and open to all.

Richard de la Riva is originally from Sudbury, Ontario. Based in Montreal since 1986, he gained practical experience with renowned architectural firms before establishing his own practice. Affleck de la Riva Architects is mainly engaged in the elaboration of institutional projects in the Montreal area. Diversified, Affleck de la Riva examines many areas of practice, including restauration and conservation, contemporary interventions, urban design and landscape. The importance of developing original points of view through critical thought is central to Richard’s work and his interest in architectural detailing has led him to develop expertise in the recycling and restoration of patrimonial buildings, both traditional and modern. In these buildings, the integration of new technologies must often be weighed in the context of material value and craftsmanship. He is currently involved in the development of competition-winning projects, including the Coeur Nomade library and cultural space, and Espace Rivière. Richard has also been involved in teaching at both l’Université de Montréal and McGill University.

See you there!
