Archi-North Workshops 2024-2025

This year, Archi·North will be offering architectural workshops in French and English for students in grades 9 to 12 in high schools across Ontario, at the McEwen School of Architecture, and online! Archi·North workshops provide a SHSM certificates for in eligible sectors.

Portfolio Workshops

  • Webinar – Thursday, November 28th from 6 to 8pm

Description: Prospective architecture students and their parents are invited to join the webinar session to discuss any questions they may have regarding the architecture application portfolio with MSoA instructors. The webinar will kick off at 6pm with a tutorial on how to package a digital portfolio and how to host it on the web. Students will also be able to review examples of portfolio submissions from past years.

  • In-Person at the MSoA – Saturday, November 30th from 12 to 5pm

Description: Prospective architecture students and their parents are invited to the McEwen School of Architecture (main entrance, 85 Elm St) with their laptops, samples of their work, and any questions they may have regarding the architecture application portfolio. There will be 2 scheduled tutorials on how to package a digital portfolio and how to host it on the web at 1 pm and 3:30 pm (these 2 tutorials will be the same). Students will be able to review examples of portfolio submissions from past years.

A similar second round of Portfolio workshops will be held at the MSoA in January 2025.

Our Archi·North team comes to your classroom for an architectural workshop. We can offer you a 2.5-hour long or full-day session.

  • Introduction to architectural and technical drawings

Description: Introductory workshop on the different types of architectural and technical drawings, including multi-view, axonometric and perspective drawings. The workshop offers the chance to learn how to use a drafting board and the basic analogue tools for technical drawing.
Name of SHSM certificate: advanced training in a technique
SHSM sectors: Arts and Culture, Construction, Energy, Manufacturing, Horticulture and Landscaping
Maximum number of students per workshop: 30

In addition to a tour of the MSoA facilities – an exemplary mass-timber construction building – we can offer you a 2.5-hour long or full-day workshop.

Online Workshops

Would you like to integrate a presentation on architecture into your curriculum? We can offer a one-hour virtual class given by a McEwen School of Architecture faculty member!

  • The History of North American Architecture

The course explores the evolution of architecture in North America from the period of colonization to the present, with an emphasis on Canadian architecture. The presentation provides an overview of the themes addressed in the study of architectural history.
Content can be adapted to suit the level of study or interests of the students.

  • The Role of the Architect in Canada

What does an architect do? What does it take to become an architect in Canada? This course explores the work and role of the architect, as well as the academic and professional path required to become an architect in Canada.
Content can be adapted to suit the level of study or interests of the students.

  • Drawings and Architectural Representation

This course provides an introduction to the different types of architectural drawings, including multi-view, axonometric and perspective drawings, as well as an overview of the various graphic representation techniques used in the world of architecture.
Content can be adapted to suit the level of study or interests of the students.
