Film Screening + panel discussion on Feb.16

In collaboration with McGill University’s Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Montréal (CIRM), the McEwen School of Architecture invites you to the online screening + panel discussion of the documentary film “Une tour sur la montagne: l’architecture d’Ernest Cormier et sa vie avec Clorinthe Perron” (A Tower on the Mountain: the Architecture of Ernest Cormier and his life with Clorinthe Perron).

This documentary film by filmmaker Paul Carvalho and MSoA Assistant Professor Aliki Economides offers a critical inquiry into the astonishingly rich and passionate life of French-Canadian artist, architect and engineer Ernest Cormier (1885-1980), who was among the most important architects in Canada during the first half of the 20th century. They will be joined by historians Magda Fahrni and Roderick MacLeod for a round table moderated by architectural historian Peter Sealy, to discuss the sociocultural dynamics of Montréal during the interwar period, particularly with respect to issues of language, cultural identity, social class, gender and domestic life.

The film, which was produced for ICI Radio-Canada Télé, will be presented in its original French version with English subtitles. The discussion will be in French, but questions and comments from the audience in English are welcome.
