2022 MSoA Awards and Scholarships

The 2022 season of awards has come to a close as we launched the new 2022-23 academic year, and the outcome is extremely impressive as our BAS and M.Arch students have demonstrated their excellence on the MSoA stage and on the provincial and national stages. Indeed, in 2022, the MSoA has awarded $51,150 in awards and scholarships, and, on top of that, our students have received $501,000 in national awards, graduate scholarships, and university GTAships, which amount to more than $550,000 that will support BAS students from year 1 to 4, and M.Arch students from year 1 to 2, as they continue to strive for excellence. We are extremely proud of all the recipients and all other MSoA students, as we recognize their hard work, dedication and passion.

These awards were presented during various events that happened at the MSoA in the past months, starting with the Convocation Celebration event (see photos further below) that happened on the morning of June 2 for the BAS, and on the evening of June 2 for the M.Arch. On this occasion, 6 Undergraduate Final Project (UFP) Awards were presented by Soprema, and 5 honourable mentions were presented by J.L.Richards, for a grand total of $3,500 in scholarships. Open the first dropdown menu below to learn more about the UFP award recipients.

Additionally, on the evening of June 2, the M.Arch graduates were also invited to a Convocation Celebration event (see photos further below), where a total of 24 Thesis Awards were bestowed, for a grand total of $16,500 in scholarships. These awards were made possible thanks to the generous contribution of multiple donors.  Open the second dropdown menu below to learn more about the Thesis Award recipients and the donors.

Moreover, a number of our students have received recognition on the national stage in the past months, which was sometimes assorted with a scholarship. Open the third dropdown menu below to learn more about these national awards and their recipients.

Furthermore, a record number of M.Arch students have been selected by Laurentian University to receive Graduate Scholarships, which amounts to $155,000 from OGS and SSHRC in 2022. On top of that, A very large contingent of M.Arch students have been selected to become Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs), which comes with $8,500/year for assistantship activities, and with a $8,500/year scholarship, which amounts to $340,000 for 2022-23! Open the fourth dropdown menu below to learn more about these graduate scholarships and their recipients.

Also, ten different awards were bestowed to 23 BAS and M.Arch students from all cohorts in both programs, amouting to $31,150 in scholarships. These were presented to the students on the Sep. 8 Awards Ceremony at the McEwen School of Architecture (see photos further below). These awards recognize excellent work from the students done in the previous academci year, and the excellence of incoming BAS and M.Arch students. Open the fifth dropdown menu below to learn more about these BAS and M.Arch awards and their recipients.

Finally, on Saturday Sep.3, the MSoA invited all 2020 and 2021 BAS and M.Arch graduates to come back to the School for an in-person reunion, as these alumnis did not get to celebrate in person during their Convocation, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On this occasion, physical certificates were presented to the award recipients, and all graduates were acknowledged, in front of family and friends (see photos further below).
